Hazardous Materials Technician
8 Hr Refresher Course
Scope
The purpose of this program is to train responders and site workers in the standards set forth by OSHA1910.120 which enables them to mitigate hazardous substance releases and continue to work on hazards waste sites.
Course Objectives
- Provide refresher training to previously trained individuals
- Refresh HAZWOPER & discuss it’s role in today’s industry
- Refresh skills for the recognition & control of occupational hazards
- Refresh emergency response techniques
- Refresh the understanding of basic hazardous materials terms
Terminal Learning Objectives
- Demonstrate an understanding of the HAZWOPER standards and supporting documents
- Demonstrate an understanding of the properties of hazardous materials
- Demonstrate an understanding of chemistry as it relates to hazardous materials
- Describe the toxicological effects of hazardous materials on the body
- Demonstrate a general understanding of common hazardous materials and the risks associated with exposure to these materials
- Describe methods used to recognize and identify hazardous materials
- Demonstrate the proper use of Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG)
- Demonstrate the proper use of the Wireless Information System for Emergency Responders (WISER)
- Demonstrate an understanding of personal protective equipment (PPE): selection, limitation, and use
- Demonstrate knowledge of basic control, containment and /or confinement operations within the capabilities of the resources and personal protective equipment available
- Demonstrate knowledge of hazardous materials incidents, employing your company’s emergency response guidelines: safely plan adherence, efficiently and professionally
- Demonstrate an understanding of termination and close out incident procedures
